Mauritius has a beautiful and exotic name but actually it belongs to Maurice de Nassau, the Prince of Netherlands. The Dutch gave the island that name in 1598 after claiming it.
Before the Dutch came Mauritius was called Dina Arobi by Arab sailors and then Cirne by the Portuguese.
